"Most of the music contained in this album originates from recordings I made in London in 1982, whilst working on the score for the film BLADE RUNNER. Finding myself unable to release these recordings at the time, it is with great pleasure that I am able to do so now. Some of the pieces contained will be known to you from the Original Soundtrack of the film, whilst others are appearing here for the first time. Looking back at RIDLEY SCOTT's powerful and evocative pictures left me as stimulated as before, and made the recompiling of this music, today, an enjoyable experience."

Blade Runner is the soundtrack for Ridley Scott's 1982 science-fiction noir film Blade Runner, composed by Greek electronic musician Vangelis. It has received acclaim as among Vangelis's best work and an influential work in the history of electronic music. It was nominated in 1983 for a BAFTA and Golden Globe as best original score. The score evokes the film's bleak futurism with an emotive synthesizer-based sound, drawing on the jazz scores of classic film noir as well as neo-classical elements and. Many of these tracks appeared on Vangelis' 1980 album See You Later, but they were jazz interpretations of the music rather than the music heard in the film. This is one of the most amazing pieces I have. It's difficult to accept how good the channel separation and dynamic range is in this LP density. The sound is 4-dimensional. They must have done everything right.
Hi, was the numbered sticker on the wrap or on the jacket itself? Thanks.
Yeah but you have a copy and it probably sounds amazing!
Thank you so much for the reply! This means mine is not the limited numbered edition:(
Just checked and the numered sticker is on the jacket itself
I remember this sounding nice when it was spun on an ok set up years ago. After a significant upgrade, randomly spotted this in the collection and didn't think much of it based on previous plays. Holy moly this sounds good. It's one of those records that will sound better and better as equipment allows. Straight into my personal top 3 for mastering / pressing quality.
I’ve owned a few thousand records in my time ... and this is in the top ten best pressing/mastering/packaging of all of them.
Soon as the needle hit the groove... silence... then BAM! What an incredible pressing. A+ Packaging is solid. B+ Color is fantastic. A-It is vinyl like this that continues to keep me faithful to this medium. Wow. Just... wow.. I tip my hat to you Audio Fidelity. Bravo!

The OOP Audio Fidelity reissue was (co-)mastered by Kevn P. Gray, as noted in the matrices. The one Ghost_1 above referred to, in 2018, is repress of the the 2015 reissue that AldoMelk, below, referred to; both bear the same matrices. But those matrices, which lack an engineer's credits, are totally different than that of the Audio Fidelity/Kevin Gray reissue. That would explain the disappointing sonic differences that AldoMelk cites.Yep, the AF is the one to get so far, despite Blade Runner fanatics' longstanding complaint that a vinyl (or CD?) version containing ALL of the music Vangelis had recorded for BR has yet to be released.

don't get your hopes up... i picked this 'repress' up and it's just this version: https://www.discogs.com/Vangelis-Blade-Runner/release/7097828 featuring low-end distortion throughout :(
Nothing personal
Does anyone have a link to a pre-order page? This link: http://www.twoheadeddog.com/vangelis-blade-runner-soundtrack-lp/ only shows "add to wishlist".
Thank you for the infos, I hope so too :-)
It has been in and out of Pre-Order. I think they may be doing it in batches. Keep checking the website I hope you can get one!
Walmart.com has it for 20.00 on black vinyl which is a similar pressing to what bull moose is selling. Bull moose also has it for president order.
Looks like the rumors are correct as this is getting repressed again. Bullmoose has a preorder page for this. Limited to a few thousand copies, but will likely use the mastering form the EU version.
Release date appears to be on January 16, which is only a month away.
My local retailer is now taking preorders for a reissue of this album with a December 1st release date.
January 16 is the release date for the repress, according to Bullmoose.
Save your money, it looks like it's being re-pressed very soon:http://www.twoheadeddog.com/vangelis-blade-runner-soundtrack-lp/ EDIT: my information is apparently incorrect, and this online retailer is not inaccurate. Sorry everyone, looks like you're stuck paying $150+ for this version
January 15 is the release date for this repress and based on the EU pressing on black vinyl.
It is being sold at hmv and other stores. I ordered mine at bull moose and it should be released on January 15. Amazon and Walmart.com have it and every store should have this vinyl. Merchbar supposedly has it as well.
Yep I got a pre-order in at the start of October, had one email from them but nothing since. Does anybody know if the vinyl has actually been pressed??
Same here. I received an email from Two Headed Dog with about the same thing said to me. It's definitely being repressed. They just don't know when an exact ship date will happen. I hope it'll at least be this year! lol.
I pre-ordered it aswell, unsure whether it is a mistake or misunderstanding. Just a few seconds ago, the order was updated to ‚Awaiting Shipment‘. This seems legit and correct - I do wonder what will end up in my mailbox! EDIT: the website claims that a reprint is on its way according to its distributor, although there is neither an exact time frame nor are there any details. Don’t waste your money on those discogs scalper bloodsuckers quite yet!
Pre-order link is back! http://www.twoheadeddog.com/vangelis-blade-runner-soundtrack-lp/ Get in on it folks!
Love Me
Just letting everyone know that I had gotten a shipping confirmation email from Two Headed Dog that my order was waiting to ship. I then went on the site and the pre-order button is gone again. It just says add to wish list. I think they might be doing a few batches at a time in order to not oversell their allotment...
Very cool to hear! Everyone needs to get in on this now if you want a copy of this amazing soundtrack for down to earth prices. Hopefully it won't be a limited run. I gave up on getting a copy of the soundtrack because of the outrageous prices, but after seeing Blade Runner 2049 I made a beeline back on here to try and scout sellers and I almost gave up hope again until Diraan posted news about the link. This is one reason why I love Discogs because the community looks out for one another on some occasions.
Thanks for the heads up. I just got in a pre-order. I wonder if this is a repress or new-old stock? Anyway I'm glad I got in on it. I hope the sequel soundtrack gets a vinyl release. Hans Zimmer did an awesome job with it.
The 'pre-order' button is back. Try to snag an order while you can.
The 'pre-order' button disappeared for a few days on that listing, but it's back up. I put in for an order and got a confirmation. There's still no date on it, so I guess we'll see if it pans out.
Product is sold out. Noooo! Please people, some help! :)
Thanks man! :) It seems it is mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.
I contacted Audio Fidelity about this and the president emailed me back saying that their license on the title is up and that the initial two runs were all they were going to put out. So....the mastering for the Audio Fidelity version is not coming back out. Thats not to say that someone else isn't putting out another quality version, but it won't be the Audio Fidelity one.
mym Ђудęm ęгσ НuK
you are a saint!!! I'm guessing most record stores will be getting this reissue. I just ordered a double colored vinyl of the Akira soundtrack from Newburry Comics and now I can get my other favorite cyberpunk soundtrack on vinyl without having to pay a crazy price!
Fast Lovebird
Audio Fidelity lives up to their name once again with this release of a remastered, 2013 edit of this Vangelis movie score. My copy is among the best sounding records I have heard. The signal to noise ratio is perfect, a truly high fidelity recording that makes a person glad they still collect vinyl ( or at least for certain releases like this! ). This edit of the movie score is laden with well placed, dialogue excerpts from the movie. It's a perfect home run that pays homage to the movie it brings life to, but also becomes its own great piece of art as an album. The movie samples are perfectly queued and serve well as narration through the landscape of this perfectly engineered and mastered piece of audio work. A must have for any collector of vinyl for movie soundtrack, original film scores or electronic music.
great sounding album love the red color of the vinyl
Music ReviewsVangelis • Blade RunnerAudio Fidelity AFZLP 154 180-gram LP 1994/2013Music Soundby Guy Lemcoe | May20,2013Ridley Scott’s movie Blade Runner, released in 1982, is one of the most influential sci-fi motion pictures of all time. Its noirish depiction of a bleak, dank and depressingly chaotic Los Angeles circa 2019 has never been surpassed. Its popularity has generated numerous re-releases of the film in various editions, starting in 1992 with the 10th Anniversary Edition. Following this release in 1997 came the Director’s Cut and finally, in 2007, the Final Cut. But where was the soundtrack promised with the release of the first domestic cut of the movie? It was well received by fans and critics, including Best Original Score nominations for a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and a Golden Globe. In 1982 there was a version of the soundtrack released by WEA featuring the New American Orchestra. This adaptation bore little resemblance to the original --the less said about it the better. There have been several bootlegs of this music made available to fans over the years, as well as a vinyl version that for some reason originated in Brazil. In 1994, Atlantic finally released the soundtrack album on CD.Audio Fidelity has hit the ball out of the park with this vinyl release of the original Vangelis soundtrack. It's on 180-gram red translucent vinyl, the dozen tracks mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. The vinyl is pressed at Chad Kassem’s 21,000-square-foot Quality Record Pressings plant in Salina, Kansas. As a physical object, the album is a lovely thing. The jacket’s front is a heavy, glossy, beautifully rendered full-color reproduction of the artwork seen first on the CD. The back of the gatefold carries the same art as the back of the CD. Inside, all but two of the photos found in the CD’s booklet are duplicated, and the missing photos are used for the record labels. Neat! When the stylus finally hit the groove for the first time, I heard dead quiet and then the slow, deep, ethereal synthesized drone (courtesy of a Yamaha CS-80) setting the stage for Harrison Ford’s voice. From that point on I knew I was in for a ride into the magical world of Vangelis’s soundscapes, the music ebbing and flowing in and around the various melodies etched into my memories of the movie itself. The soundstage was deep and suspended behind the speakers, not as wide as I expected, but satisfying nonetheless. Where this recording excels is in the bass, which was awesome in its impact and truly subterranean in spots, with much more extension and information than my Acoustat speakers could handle. Those of you with subwoofers are really going to enjoy this record. The mids were spot on, with beautiful rendering of the voices and saxophone. On "Love Theme," I could easily tell that Dick Morrisey’s saxophone was a reed instrument. It had the texture and "brassiness" of the real thing. Mary Hopkin’s voice was stylistically disembodied, but it still sounded like that of a real human. The nostalgic ambience of Don Percival’s "One More Kiss, Dear" transported me to a much earlier place in time. The fine mastering allowed the personalities of the various synthesizers to emerge. The treble was airy and fast, just what‘s needed for music with a lot of percussion effects. Check out the cymbal crash on side one. It had impact and sounded like hammered brass as it shimmered in its own cushion of air. This music has been beautifully characterized by Paul Sammon in his book Future Noir as "futuristic nostalgia. . .a dizzying melange of unabashed romanticism, ominous electronic rumblings, gutter-level blues, delicate celestial shadings, and heartbreaking melancholy." I wholeheartedly agree. Add to that state-of-the-art sound and you have a treasure, and one long overdue.
I must say: I'm not that pleased with the playback quality of my copy. The surface noise is very present. The sound itself is near to perfect for a recording of that age...but some very audible surface flaws ruin especially the extra quiet parts (start of A4 - Rachel's Song for example...). Could be a problem with my copy only of course. Could also be a problem with my setup, but I doubt that as there are many records that produce nearly no surface noise on my team.Try to verify it with another copy if I have the chance to get my hands on another...Repertoire and music itself is a clear 5* for me.If there will ever be a version with no voice overdubs and full score-tracks (with pauses) - that one will get 6* :DSonically it is nice to enjoy it with that "vinyl warmth" - but my stone old CD-version outperforms it clearly when it comes to very low level parts.
I experience the same problems. The guy I bought it from warned me of these problems beforehand but I got it for a good price. My vinyl collecting consists of a lot of $1 goodwill finds in well played conditions so I can live with some surface noise but I would be really bummed out if I got a bad copy of this if I paid full price.
Just picked this up sealed in a local shop for 19 EUR's. The owner said he couldn't get rid of it... jikes, great find! :D
This is the soundtrack to the 80ies. Such cinematographic power. Fell in love with it the first time I saw the movie. Pure Class!
I listened to this on headphones when it arrived this weekend. Apart from some surface noise at the start of each side, I didn't notice much else. For coloured translucent vinyl it sounds very, very good. Lots of atmosphere, amazing clarity and great bass response. I'm amazed it isn't a heavy weight double LP, as it sounds that good. And, its just great that its on LP.
All in all a magnificent album, the audio quality is outstanding, the details are more present than in the digital version, the atmosphere is staggered more in the depth. But there is one black mark, it is not really a problem, because its on the end of each side, there is a permanent subtle sound of noise, it seams like a noise which comes from the needle that runs through the groove, I never heard that before on a disc. But anyway its not really a problem. One thing is for sure Kevin Gray made a good job.  Starkwood. I didnt hear those clicks. I,m happy to own this album.Regards Elysio.
The matrix/runout information listed for the Audio Fidelity vinyl issue is incorrect... it was cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio... with the aid of someone else, whom I don't know....It is a bit hard to read though as his handwriting is not neat. Should be something like [email protected]
Having lots of kinda rhythmic clicks throughout side 2, starting in the middle of "Blade Runner Blues", does anyone else have the same issue? :( Got my copy from amazon.ca, vinyl looks clean & shiny, and the needle is brand new.
yes side 2 has clicks on my vinyl too, pretty much all the way through blade runner blues, and some random loud clicks in other songs, but never rhythmic. still pretty annoying though.
If anyone wants to check out how the album sounds, I've posted a video of it spinning here: http://youtu.be/2x3UNHNo1LAEnjoy!
fantastic, thank you.
It is fantastic that this album has final been given the audiophile treatment with a superb vinyl pressing. Epic red vinyl, lovely gatefold cover and it comes in a sealed bag. Each one is numbed and the playback quality is superb.
I read 5000 pressed somewhere.
Does anyone know how many were pressed?
I'm with you on that one bell-end! In top 5 at least anyway. Anyone know how many will be released? The Audio Fidelity site doesn't specify, and all vinyl released these days appears to be 'limited edition'. I'm buying one regardless of course.
Not sure, mine has a sticker # 3184, so quite a few I'd guess 5000
many pre-order sites list april 14th-- can't wait!
Finally!!! I have the bootleg from 2003 which has served me well but to know that a full-quality vinyl pressing of this masterpiece is on it's way is just great.I've pre-ordered my copy and I would strongly suggest that anyone looking for a copy does the same.the greatest soundtrack of all time?
Correct. Mine was shipped out from German distributor yesterday.
this started shipping out last week for some vendors. Mine should arrive today or tomorrow
Hilarious Kangaroo
How can this be on sale (on discogs) when its not out yet?
