It is a combination of both experimental and traditional Sunn O, utilizing many guest musicians, including black metal musicians Malefic and Wrest from Xasthur and Leviathan, respectively. The band supposedly also went so far as to lock the claustrophobic Malefic in a casket to record the vocals on Báthory Erzsébet. Keeping with the black metal mindset, the pair then proceed to deconstruct Immortal's Cursed Realms Of the Winterdemons into a barely recognizable primordial soup of tonal thrumming, before calling Xasthur's Malefic down to the basement to supply additional screams for the splendidly named Candlegoat and megalithic closer, Báthory Erzsébet. The band is known for an extremely heavy sound that blends diverse genres including drone, black metal, dark ambient, and noise rock, and for very loud live performances. Supported by a varying cast of collaborators, the band was formed by two core members: Stephen O'Malley also of Khanate and Burning Witch and Greg Anderson of Goatsnake and Engine Kid. Sunn O pronounced sun is an American drone band from Seattle, Washington, that formed in. This was my first encounter with drone and it's still my favourite record of this genre. It uses the abrasive and soul enveloping atmospheres created by droning distorted guitars and places some pretty terrifying vocals and intrumentation on top of them, creating a grey medieval world filled with decaying churches, rotten corpses, black-winged demons and a chilling feel of dread in the air. I also think that comparing this album to Earth 2 isn't that valid. While it is clearly inspired by it,. read more. Or consider a donation 1. Sixth album from the doom metal duo nearly matches their ferocious live power, and features assistance from noise icon John Wiese and experimental guitarist and percussionist Oren. Black One. Southern Lord. when Black One was released, it came as a bit of a surprise that the band managed to delicately enhance all of the best aspects of their music and release it in a comprehensive package, devoid of highly experimental tracks like White2's bassAliens or self-referential pieces prior to Black One, five studio album tracks had O in. their title. As one might suspect from taking a glance at the album name and cover, Black One isn't a very hopeful record. It knows exactly where it's going at gets there efficiently, but it's an unrelentingly gloomy record that pulls no punches
